MEMBERSHIP

The RCMP Veteran’s Association is a non-profit fraternal organization.  Its primary goals are: 

bulletPromote fellowship and concern for one another, including active members of the division, widows and widowers.
bulletAct as a volunteer resource.  The following are some activities Calgary Division is involved in:

(a) participate in the Calgary Stampede Parade,

(b) provide personnel during the summer to Fort Calgary to assist with tourism and to act as Force Ambassadors,

(c) provide personnel to Old Morley Detachment during the Calgary Stampede to assist with tourism,

(d) visit and provide assistance to shut-ins and members in hospital,

(e)   provide pall bearers and honour guard at funerals,

(f) assist with fund raising for Fort Calgary.  During the last few years over $600,000 has been raised through working at casinos and for the construction of a Colonel Macleod Statue, which is situated at Fort Calgary,

(g)  organize socials for the membership throughout the year.  Some functions are:  Widows and Life Members Recognition Luncheon, barbecue, brunches, luncheons and dinners, golf tournaments, corn boil and wiener roast, Christmas Dinner,

(h)   provide assistance to members with health claims and benefit submissions,

(i)   on an ongoing basis, look for ways to improve the lives and living conditions of our members. 

The RCMP Veterans’ Association, with its headquarters in Ottawa, has 32 divisions located at various regions across Canada.  Calgary is one of those divisions.

General By-Laws

 Section 108.1

            The Association shall consist of:

                      (a)  VOTING MEMBERS:  Active Members in good standing and Life Members.

                      (b)  NON-VOTING MEMBERS:  Active Members not in good standing, Honourary Life Members, Associate Members, Honourary Officers, and Patron. 

Section 114.2 (1)

            Any former member of the Force, or any former member of the Reserve may apply for Active Membership in Association ………  (At the AGM in 2007, this was amended to include former Auxiliary Members)

Section 114.4(1)

            A Division may confer and bestow the honour and privilege of Associate, Honourary, or Honourary Life Membership upon worthy persons………   

Spouses of members, PSE’s, and Municipal employees, who have worked for the Force or have had a close relationship with the Force are welcome to join the association as an Associate Member.  Associate Members do not pay membership dues, do not have voting privileges and cannot hold office. 

Calgary Division membership dues for 2010 have been set at $40.00 .  These dues include a per capita assessment payable to the National Office.
